Student Progress

How we report grades and measure student learning with state and local assessments.

Our approach

Measuring student progress

Scholar Academy opened in the 2014–15 school year with grades K–6 and now serves grades K–8. Our courses are designed to meet Cognia (formerly AdvancED) accreditation standards and Utah requirements, and our coursework aligns with Tooele County School District so students move smoothly into secondary school.

Scholar Academy meets all state assessment requirements. Teachers and administrators review student achievement data together in grade-level and vertical teams to guide instruction.

Grade monitoring

Scholar Academy uses Aspire, the state's grading system. Grades, progress reports and report cards all come from our online gradebook, which parents and students can check anytime.

Progress monitoring

Progress monitoring is built into the research-based reading programs we use, and it is one of the things we look for when choosing new curriculum.

Assessments

State and local tests

A brief description of the tests students take while at Scholar Academy.

Grades 3–8
RISE

Students in grades 3–8 take Utah's RISE end-of-year tests. Each test matches the grade the student is enrolled in.

Grades K–6
Acadience Reading

Acadience measures early literacy skills from kindergarten through 6th grade. Utah uses it to check reading proficiency in grades 1–3, and Scholar Academy also gives it to K–6 students reading below grade level. Results help identify which third graders are reading on grade level.

Grade 6
ACT Explore

Sixth graders may take the ACT Explore test, which shows strengths and areas for growth in English, math, reading and science and includes a career-planning component.
