Rigorous, engaging instruction aligned to the Utah Core Standards, built on creative problem solving, cooperative learning and reflection.
Teachers know exactly what students should know, understand and be able to do after every unit. We regularly research curriculum programs and choose the ones that best match our mission, vision and beliefs based on current research.
When better curriculum is developed, we change programs. The freedom to make research-based decisions is one of the strengths of being a charter school.
Every subject follows the Utah Core Curriculum standards and objectives.
Reading is the foundation for lifelong success. We use the Utah Three-Tier Model of Reading Instruction, and our 1st–6th grade literacy block places students at their instructional level, letting them move between levels as their reading, speaking, listening and writing skills grow. Research-based texts and carefully selected novels teach phonemic awareness, phonics and word study, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
Following the Utah Three-Tier Model of Math Instruction, students in grades 1–6 work in a leveled system, with Tier II support for students not yet at grade-level mastery. Logic and problem solving are central, connecting math to real life and to other subjects. Illustrative Mathematics by Open Up Resources is the foundation of our math curriculum.
Students explore first, often in small groups, making observations and sharing ideas before formal instruction. Lessons move from concrete experiences to abstract ideas, encourage different ways of solving problems, and use technology for research, writing and discussion.
Kindergarteners get 15 minutes of Spanish every day, and grades 1–6 have 30-minute sessions four times a week. Using a communicative approach, students practice listening, speaking, reading and writing through role plays, dialogues and presentations. One day each week explores the music, dance, art and customs of a Spanish-speaking culture.
Elementary students have weekly technology classes following the K–12 Computer Science Framework, with touch typing beginning in 3rd grade. Junior high students take Digital Literacy in 8th grade and may take classes such as Creative Coding.
K–3 teachers weave art into the classroom, elementary students have weekly music with a music specialist, and all 4th–6th graders take part in the Great Artist Program. Students can also join music and art classes after school and perform at PTO events and Night of the Arts.
Healthy, fit children learn best. Our PE and health curriculum includes every student, with accommodations for students with health care plans or IEPs. Grades 7–8 use the Choosing the Best health curriculum, which is approved by the Health Department and also used by Tooele County School District. A copy is available to review in the front office.
Service learning helps students see how their skills apply to real life, make a real difference for others, make decisions with real results, and build problem-solving skills, civic responsibility and accountability.

We use Love and Logic, a problem-solving model where students work with adults to solve their own problems. Social skills lessons are part of social studies in every classroom, helping students become respectful, caring citizens.
