Letter From The Principal

Dear Parents,

The lottery for 2016-17 opens January 1st at 10:00 a.m. Current parents will be sent a link to register returning students. Parents with incoming kindergarten students will register them in the lottery system.

All incoming kindergarten will be drawn for a half -day session. We will lottery for 72 seats. Before fall we will then invite those 72 parents to put their student into a drawing for the two full day kindergarten classes. We are hopeful to be running two full day sessions next year and one ½ day a.m. session.

Please let friends and neighbors who are interested in Scholar Academy know they need to register their students in the lottery on or shortly after January 1st. As you all know it is important that they do this early! We will run the first lottery on January 14th .

If you have any questions about the lottery please contact the Scholar office at 435-566-6957 or click to e-mail Valerie Coffman.

classroom happenings

Mrs. Tignor's First Graders

During the month of December we have been learning about how Christmas is celebrated around the world.
Each day we have a new country that we focus on where we learn all about their holiday traditions, food, and celebrations. With each new country we are learning about, we will have the opportunity to listen to a few traditional Christmas carols, read stories, and create a craft. Each day we take what we learned about our country for that day and compare it to our own traditions and celebrations. We are even creating these really amazing journals where we write how our own traditions compare and contrast to the ones we are learning about. It has been a lot of fun for me to learn about how the students celebrate the holidays and their family traditions!

Music

Season's Greetings to all from the Music Classes here at Scholar Academy!!
The choir has been very busy getting ready to perform their annual Christmas Program and had a blast performing on a float in last weekend's parade on Vine. We also performed Wed., Dec. 2nd at the Rocky Mountain Care Center in Tooele. We have our big Christmas fieldtrip coming up on Dec. 11th and are very excited to go to Salt Lake and perform at the Dickens' Festival, Gateway Museum, and the Hogle Zoo.

In 4th, 5th, and 6th grades we are learning to play Jingle Bells and Jolly Old St. Nickolas on the recorders. We are having such a fun time doing this. In the lower grades we are also practicing singing some of the familiar Christmas carols. We are also learning about the basic elements of music. We are off to a NOTEWORTHY START!!!

Scholar Academy - The Only Elementary School in Tooele County Participating in
HOUR OF CODE!

Scholar kindergarteners and first graders jumped right into Hour of Code, Monday December 7th - to kick off Computer Science Week. These little munchkins produced 48 lines of Javascript code! First graders pulled in a whopping 376 lines!

What's even more impressive is collaboration between students to code higher levels in their game of choice: Star Wars, Minecraft, Flappy Bird, Frozen, Angry Birds, or Disney Play Lab.

Please check out Mrs. Parke's "Hour Of Code" web page for photos, code totals and more info.
