classroom happenings

Mrs. Tignor's First Graders

During the month of December we have been learning about how Christmas is celebrated around the world.
Each day we have a new country that we focus on where we learn all about their holiday traditions, food, and celebrations. With each new country we are learning about, we will have the opportunity to listen to a few traditional Christmas carols, read stories, and create a craft. Each day we take what we learned about our country for that day and compare it to our own traditions and celebrations. We are even creating these really amazing journals where we write how our own traditions compare and contrast to the ones we are learning about. It has been a lot of fun for me to learn about how the students celebrate the holidays and their family traditions!

Season's Greetings to all from the Music Classes here at Scholar Academy!!
The choir has been very busy getting ready to perform their annual Christmas Program and had a blast performing on a float in last weekend's parade on Vine. We also performed Wed., Dec. 2nd at the Rocky Mountain Care Center in Tooele. We have our big Christmas fieldtrip coming up on Dec. 11th and are very excited to go to Salt Lake and perform at the Dickens' Festival, Gateway Museum, and the Hogle Zoo.

In 4th, 5th, and 6th grades we are learning to play Jingle Bells and Jolly Old St. Nickolas on the recorders. We are having such a fun time doing this. In the lower grades we are also practicing singing some of the familiar Christmas carols. We are also learning about the basic elements of music. We are off to a NOTEWORTHY START!!!
